Overview

The 1st International Conference of Geosciences in the Service of Territorial Development (ICGSTD) is a premier gathering aimed at harnessing the power of earth‐science research to address the pressing challenges of sustainable regional growth. Slated for October 28–30, 2025, the event will take place at Mustapha Ben Boulaid University (Batna 2) in the historic city of Batna, Algeria. Over three days, leading researchers, practitioners, and policymakers will exchange cutting-edge findings through keynote lectures, thematic sessions, and hands-on workshops.

Mission & Vision

Mission: To bridge foundational geoscientific research and applied territorial planning, delivering actionable solutions for resilient, equitable, and sustainable development. This conference aspires to catalyze interdisciplinary collaboration that transforms data into policy and practice.
Vision: A world where geoscience innovations empower communities, inform smart land‐use decisions, and guide resource management to foster long-term territorial well-being.

Conference Themes

ICGSTD’s program spans six core topics, each exploring intersections between geology, technology, and planning:

  1. Applied Geomatics & Territorial Intelligence
Leveraging geospatial technologies to convert raw geoscientific data into strategic insights for urban and regional planning.

  2. Planning, Territorial Development & Socio-Spatial Inequalities
Examining policy interventions that address spatial disparities and promote inclusive growth .

  3. Fundamental Geology: Earth Processes & Structural Dynamics
Investigating tectonic and structural mechanisms to deepen our understanding of Earth’s evolution.

  4. Major Risk Management & Territorial Resilience
Assessing natural hazards and designing mitigation strategies to bolster community resilience.

  5. Tourism, Geodiversity & Geoheritage
Exploring the role of unique geological assets in driving sustainable tourism and enhancing territorial attractiveness .

  6. Climate Change, Hydrogeology & Water Resources
Addressing climate impacts on hydrosystems and developing adaptive management strategies for water security.

Venue & Host

ICGSTD will be hosted by Mustapha Ben Boulaid University (Batna 2), a leading Algerian institution fostering excellence across 8 faculties and institutes, 31 departments, and a vibrant community of over 24,800 students and 1,335 faculty members.
The conference auditorium is located on the scenic Batna 2 campus, offering state-of-the-art facilities and easy access to the city’s cultural and historical landmarks. Batna itself sits at 1,058 m above sea level in the Aurès region of northeastern Algeria, with a population of approximately 400,000 and a rich heritage dating back to antiquity.

Organizers & Committees

ICGSTD is led by an international Scientific Committee and an Organizing Committee composed of renowned experts in geosciences, urban planning, and environmental engineering. Together, they ensure a balanced program that highlights both theoretical advances and field-tested solutions.
